One of the last old Victorian School buildings in Clay Cross is in the process of being demolished. January 2022
Since the School was built in 1894 it has served to town with the education of many. I’m sure a lot of people still living today have very fond memories of their time at the school.
The new School was opened on Sharley Park in 2009 and since then the old school has been left to go to ruin and become dangerous.
Derbyshire County Council first applied for permission to demolish the building in 2016. Work was due to start in August 2021 but was delayed and finally started January 2022.
The other school buildings were demolished in 2013 to make way for Smithy Brook that was built in 2013 to 2016
Other parts of the old School buildings still stand and are still used today as the adult education centre.
