The building of the Aldi store Clay Cross
After a long long wait Aldi finally opened its doors in Clay Cross for the first time in Clay Cross on October 26th 2017.
The store was first scheduled to open 12 months earlier but was held up by the relocation of a mobile phone mast already on the site.
From early morning on the opening day people queued for the 8am opening. The shop and roads was very busy thought the day.The opening of the shop seems to have made High Street much busier not only with vehicles but also pedestrians.
Demolition started in March 2016
In February 2016 work started on clearing the way for the New Aldi Store on High Street Clay Cross. The work was soon halted because the mobile phone mast situated on the Haus Herr building needed to be re-sited but no planning permission was in place.
Work was put on hold until February 2017 when a new mast was erected across the road behind Nutts Carpet shop.
