Clay Cross Drill Hall P O W Camp 248
The Drill Hall Camp on the A61 Derby Road going out of Clay Cross towards Tupton. Now the Drill Hall is North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre. CLOSED 2021
The rest of the camp has been turned into industrial units. If you look at the area today you don’t have to use much imagination to see it as what was a military camp. The camp was used during World War 2 (1939 to 1945) as a prisoner of war camp.
The prisoners were used for local work on the farms etc. Most of the local men had gone to fight the war the men left behind were working in the mines.
